Morrow gave me a lifetimes worth of Christmas miracles. I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart for their kindness and compassion in working to save Toby but also for the care and kindness they showed to me during a very stressful time. Morrow and Emily Thackeray for their time and energy that went into Toby’s surgery. Bloat has a high mortality rate if not attended to with great speed and skill. I am writing to thank Dr. Gastric dilation and volvulus syndrome (also known as bloat or torsion) is a life threatening condition not uncommon in large and deep chested dogs where the stomach twists often times involving or threatening other organs. Wednesday night my nine-year-old standard poodle Toby bloated. In the 1970s there was a slogan “Haliburton is for Lovers.” Regardless of whether truth or fiction I do know for certain that there is a lot of love in Haliburton. At that time I told my friends in Peterborough I was only planning to stay five years and would be returning to civilization. 10 we were overwhelmed by the love and support of our community. The bravery demonstrated by Barry Miscio and Joe Voicey when they entered our smoke-filled house to rescue Darlene was exemplary. We will always be grateful to the Haliburton and Algonquin Highlands fire departments our neighbours Theresa and Darren Johnston for taking Darlene into their home to wait for the ambulance to Derwyn Barry and his workers who dragged our vehicles to safety to all who donated money clothing and food to Sandy Stevens who organized the support and set up the trust fund. We also thank our pastor Rev Bev and Pat Hicks and our church family Northland Faith Church for their prayers and support. We also appreciated the efforts of Ed and Doreen Hodgins Darlene’s parents for taking us into their home. It will take a while to get our lives back on track but with the community support and prayers we have received we are in great shape. I came to Haliburton 42 years ago.

I have lived in the Village of Haliburton for the past 15 years and am so very impressed with the snow removal work (roads and sidewalks) of the roads department of Dysart.
It would seem that with so much discussion recently about the state of our local winter roads one should give credit where credit is due. Thanks too to everyone who donates or shops at the Lily (which supports the food bank). It is difficult to adequately express our gratitude to the wonderful caring community we have the privilege of living in and that responds so generously to meet the needs at our food bank. This and our regular monthly distribution of food would not be possible without the generosity of so many. As we look back over the last couple of months we simply say a big “thank you” to a long list of campaigns and supporters including: Fill-the-Truck Terror on Wonderland Road Zombie Walk Fill-the-Cruiser Moose FM Radiothon Home Builders (toy drive) our local grocery stores schools businesses clubs individual donors and our volunteers. While some similar features were already available in other apps (Telegram, for example, has let you listen to messages outside chats for a while), it’s definitely nice to see WhatsApp’s version getting some attention.In December the 4Cs had the privilege of distributing toys and more than 200 Christmas food vouchers to our community. These improvements will likely get a lot of use - WhatsApp says that users send an average of 7 billion voice chats a day. Plus, WhatsApp can remember where you were when you paused playback and let you start playing back from that point again so you don’t have to re-listen to an entire message. Instead of just using a line to show your voice message playback progress, WhatsApp will now use a waveform of the actual message. There’s also a slight aesthetic improvement. You’ll also be able to listen to a message before you send it to make sure you didn’t accidentally get cut off or include something you didn’t want to. WhatsApp now lets you pause and resume your recording, so you don’t have to leave large gaps of silence if you’re thinking of what to say next or redo a recording if you need to have a brief conversation in real life.
The experience of recording messages is also improving.
WhatsApp announced on Wednesday that it will roll out some improvements to voice messages over the coming weeks, including the ability to listen to a message while reading other chats and play messages at 1.5 or 2 times speed (yes, please, put this feature everywhere).
